Race Convoy 2017

In April of 2017 Spiritus Christi Church sponsored a diverse team of ambassadors traveling to Alabama to explore the roots of racism in an attempt to understand racism as it was and as it is.  We were inspired by Civil Rights history which made some progress toward equalities and were hit with the stark truth of current day inequalities that still exist like the incarceration realities of today.  Based on our experiences we authored a book which you may be interested in looking at.  You can support the Heritage Site by purchasing the book using this link.

One of our stops was to the Kelly Ingram Park in Birmingham, Alabama. We were so inspired by the park that we we thought we could bring that idea back to Rochester and build our own Heritage Site to commorate the lives of local civil rights activists and to tell the truth about the civil rights struggle in our city.

We are proposing that, in conjunction with the City of Rochester, we construct a Rochester Heritage Site. A Heritage Site gives voice and visibility to the story of Rochester’s Black freedom struggle for liberation and equity on this soil. This initiative allows the black community to find it’s voice in the telling of it’s own story going from written paper to the park.
